Sci-Fi Convention Survival Kit

Woo Hoo! It must be your cyber birthday because your Sci-Fi Convention Survival Kit has arrived wrapped in this spiffy LINK. The "SFCON Survival Kit for NeoFans" is chock full of helpful hits for the newbie convention goer. I was researching other information when this site popped up and I just had to talk about it.

At the site, you'll notice a long list of grey buttons on the left... no, your OTHER left. Yes, there they are. Ahhh, young padawon, I see you reaching for the "Drinking" and "Sex" buttons. These are important topics to be sure, but the wise web surfer will go straight for the button labeled "Elevators." Who doesn't want to have fun with elevators at a convention? This site will show you how. Live and learn!

Horror Writers Conference

Attention horror writers! Make your reservations now if you plan on attending the Horror Writers Association annual conference and Stoker banquet. Held on June 24-26 at the Hilton Burbank Hotel and Convention Center in L.A., this conference will probably be a great place to network with other dark scribblers and disturbed thinkers. Send me a review (film guy at strange stuff dot com) of this event if you attend.

Land of the Dead

Universal Pictures is releasing "George A. Romero's Land of the Dead" in theaters on June 24, 2005... or at least that's what their site says. Clicking on the link at the Universal Pictures website gives you minimal information about the project and the official film web site is listed as "coming soon." Coming soon? COMING SOON? Hey Universal Pictures Knuckleheads! If you have a film coming out in two months, you might want to get the web site up and running.

There isn't even a trailer of this film available. The film is listed as being in post-production on IMDB. Maybe the final masterful touches are being put on it before the best horror film ever made is released... or maybe the project is a train wreck of epic proportions? Something must be out of whack if there is little marketing support for a June 2005 release date. I'm thinking Universal Picture's marketing staff is better than this, so it must be a post-production issue--or maybe Universal just doesn't want to throw good money after bad.

Anyone associated with the project care to comment?

Really Scary

I was doing research today, as I tend to do, and I happened across the Really Scary web site. It's a fun web site full good information. It's best if you visit the site yourself instead of me telling you about it, so check it out. Enjoy!

Broken Lizard of Hazzard Co.

Though not horror movie, I can't help but mention this upcoming film. Jay Chandrasekhar of Broken Lizard fame is directing the new Dukes of Hazzard film. Currently in post production, the film stars Seann William Scott (Bo Duke), Johnny Knoxville (Luke Duke), Jessica Simpson (Daisy Duke), Burt Reynolds (Boss Hogg), Wille Nelson (Uncle Jessie), and David Koechner (Cooter Davenport).

You may recall that Broken Lizard released the 2004 horror film Club Dread. Although not the best horror film ever made, it was far from the worst. The film was a nod to campy slasher flicks of the 70's and 80's and was meant to be pure old school entertainment. For a small production company just starting out, they are doing a great job building their business.

Broken Lizard also released Super Troopers in 2001. Unfortunately, the Super Troopers web site seems to be down as the link from Broken Lizard's web site isn't working, so check this Catland Films site for info.

It would appear that all of Jay's pals from Broken Lizard are also working on Dukes of Hazzard except for Erik Stolhanske who has a couple of other films in post production for 2005 according to IMDB. Dukes of Hazzard may be brilliantly funny or a horrible train wreck. I hope for the best, but fear the worst on this one.

Horror Channel

The Horror Channel is coming to cable tv. This much anticipated channel (anticipated by me if no one else) is set to feature all horror all the time... but you probably gathered that by the name. At any rate, the channel is looking for independent films to include with the regular programming. Find out more here.

Getting Underway

Ok Strange-o's, I'm getting this site underway. I added news to the "Evidence" page and also started using Blogger to make updates to the site. I'll have to work on the Blogger code some more and also add post archives.
