Army of Darkness: Special Edition
Listen up "you primitive screw heads!" You MUST have this film in your collection. Bruce Campbell stars in this definitive campy horror comedy.

Bad Taste (Limited Edition)
Peter Jackson (Director, Lord of the Rings) began his career with this fine film. Slapstick gore fans won't be disappointed as the film lives up to it's title. This film is so wrong, it's right.

City of God
Ok, this one isn't campy like many of the others on my list. This is a straight out drama and one of the best ever made. Seriously, if you like a good drama, then buy this DVD as fast as you can. Buy it here, at a retail store, or anywhere you can, because this is what drama is all about. No shit.

Dead Alive
Peter Jackson does it again. Do you want a film to shock and amaze your friends? Are you looking for maximum carnage? If so, this is the film for you.

Disclaimer: I worked on this film and I'm a wee bit biased towards it. Not a hollywood blockbuster, but an excellent first-time effort for a group of indie filmmakers. This anthology of four horror shorts includes "The Psychic" starring Margot Kidder (Superman), Alicia Goranson (Boys Don't Cry), Tom Savini (From Dusk Till Dawn), and K.C. Armstrong (The Howard Stern Show.) Buy this film and see what other indie filmmakers are doing. You can also find it on the shelves of most Hollywood Video stores if you would rather rent it.

The Devil's Backbone (Special Edition)
Watch this film when you want a ghost story that's not too scary. Set during the spanish civil war, this is a straight up (non-campy) ghost tale that will please everyone, including that film snob friend of yours who annoys you so much.

The Evil Dead (Book Of The Dead Limited Edition)
Bruce Campbell stars in the prequal to Army of Darkness. Debates over which film is better, and why, have raged on many occasions and over many beers. Regardless of which is better, only I know for sure and I'm not saying, your DVD collection is incomplete without both titles.

Leon - The Professional (Uncut International Version)
If you haven't seen this one yet, YOUR FILM EDUCATION IS SORELY LACKING. Italian hit man Leon, played by French actor Jean Reno, finds out he's human after all in this excellent film. This one deserves a spot in your collection since you'll be wanting to watch it every time someone mentions it in conversation.

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
Although not the strongest film on the list, this spoof will amuse fans of 1950's sacrifice films. The spoof holds up throughout the film, but by the end you may find the joke wearing a little thin. It's still a good film to round out an already full collection. Come back to this one later if you are just starting to build your DVD collection.

Mr. Vampire
Have you ever seen a film with hopping vampires? Now's your chance! Mr. Vampire is campy horror-comedy, martial-arts classic. Here's the secret to watching this movie: watch it with BOTH the english dubbing and english subtitles ON.

Oldboy
Here's yet another dark drama for you twisted film fans out there. A man is kidnapped off the street and then released years later for no apparent reason. He has to find out why he was abducted and finally let go. You have to figure out why you like films like this. This is not a campy film, it's a solid drama.

Save the Green Planet (Tame Cover)
If this is a comedy, and it quite possibly might be, then it's a very DARK comedy. The young "hero" kidnaps an executive to save the planet. Is the executive an alien or the victim of a madman? Watch this film when you want to see something rather dark and twisted. Perhaps not as dark and twisted as Ichi the Killer or Old Boy, but still a good, f-upped film.

Shaolin Soccer
Do you like martial arts, sports, and comedy? If you like any one of those, you'll like this movie. Sure it's subtitled, but most of the good stuff is in the action anyway. Not just a "guy" movie, women dig it too.

Wasabi (Ws Sub Dol)
Here's a fun action comedy for you. Remember Jean Reno from Leon - The Professional? He's the star of this little gem. It's a French-language film set in Japan with English subtitles. This is the perfect film to show to friends when no one can agree on what to watch. This film pleases just about everyone. Grandma too!

Wild Zero
You really can't go wrong with a Japanese, zombie, rock-a-billy, horror movie. It's the only DVD I own (so far) with a drinking game as a special feature. When enabled, a beer class icon will appear in the corner of the screen when: A. Someone combs their hair, B. Fire shoots out of something, or C. When a zombie's head gets blown off. What more could you want from a DVD?
